Expédition escalade autour de l’Europe de l’est
This summer, Jérôme and I, we’re going on a trip around the eastern Europe. On the plan: Climbing, beach, party, scuba-diving, adventure and a lot of discoveries! We search for people to come with us (more souls, more fun!). For the moment, we are 4 but I guess we’ll be something like 10 ( a lot of people are interested but for the moment, I only had few confirmations ). Even if we are just 4, we’ll go on this trip.
We’ll Start the journey the 18 July direction Slovenia. We were supposed to go in Italia but finally, that was a bad idea.
The next leg of the journey is the national Parc of Plitvice in Croatia. It’s one of the places that i need to see before I die. This Parc is nominated as Unesco World Heritage
Next, we stay in Croatia to climb in the national Parc of Paklenica.
Still in Croatia, we’ll see the national Parc of Krka. The entry is in the village of Skradin. We need to take the boat to go there and we can swim next to a waterfall!
After that, we’re going in the city of Split that is known for his nightlife and his parties. And we looove the parties!
Then we take a little break on the beach of Brela to swim, eat or just rest a little bit before taking the car again.
Next, we do a last leg of journey without climbing before going on cliffs again. We’re going in Budva in Montenegro. This town is VERY famous for the parties. There is a giant club called Top Hill. On the photos, this club looks very cool!
Afterward, we’re going to Podgorica to climb!
Then, we go to Zvernec in Albania and we stay there just one night. There are cool landscapes to see and we could visit the little island of Zvernec.
The next leg of the journey is one of the coolest of the trip: Gjipe beach in Abania. It’s a place where we can climb on the beach! There is a canyon next to the beach where there are climbing pitches too!
Next, we stop for few hours in the beach of Himara.
Just after that, we’ll do scuba-diving in Saranda.
Afterward, we’re going in Greece in Trikala. We have the choice between 3 spots but we haven’t chosen yet. The spots 1 and 2 are very close and they look quite the same. Why not doing both? Or one of there 2 spots and the spot 3?
After that, we have a long journey to climb in Rila in Bulgaria.
Next, we’re going in the cave of Prohodna.
Afterward, we’ll climb in Baile Herculane in Romania. This small city is well known for his thermal source. And the cliff is just next to the waterfall so we’ll enjoy the thermal water.
After that, we’re going in Hungary for the Sziget festival!!

After the festival, we’ll climb in Sul’ovské Skaly in Slovakia.
A last leg of the journey in Adrspach-Teplice before coming back in Belgium. First, I heard that it was illegal to climb there. Then, peoples told me that it wasn’t during spring time but that you can’t climb after rain (there is actually one ranger with a sling who loads it with pine acorns and shoots it at climbers who do so), you can’t use any chalk, you must pay a special contribution (“Le club alpin” isn’t enough there), and that you need friends, hextenders and hard gears. This trip was planed for all levels, from the beginner to the expert and sadly, it’s too dangerous for the beginner to climb there. So, even if it’s not illegal, we won’t climb here. Those who would like to do so can tell me and I’ll give them all the infos and we’ll find a solution.

And Anubha (An Indian girl! :O )
For peoples who might come with us, here is all you need to know about this trip. We’re leaving the 18 of July and we’ll come back around the 20 of August. We’ll sleep a lot in tent but sometimes, we’ll afford a real hotel to take a real shower with hot water (a cheap one. I’m not the princess of Monaco and sadly, I don’t have a million to spend in this trip).
For the price, it’s difficult to tell with exact numbers what it will cost. We made a basic budget:
-The fuel and the tolls would cost 1000€ for each vehicle. The cost is calculated for a diesel car. I counted too much to be sure that we have enough and we’ll give the rest back equally after we come back. As we’re four in each car, we divide it and pay 250€ each. I have one place left in my car so hurry up and let me know if you want this place.
-The Sziget festival cost 199€ plus the parking place that cost 95€ and that we divide by four. So the Sziget would cost 222,75 by person. The entries for the Sziget will cost 219€ from the 30 of April so hurry up and buy your entries! Everybody buy his own food in the Sziget. If you want, you can also buy some food in the supermarkets out of the festival to pay less.
-For the food, we’ll pay in common for the basics (bread, water, rice, pastas, eggs, milk, a big bucket of Nutella (YES, the Nutella IS a basic) etc ). Then, each person pay his extras. If you want you special K special diet that cost 8€ the pack, it’s your problem. And each person pay his meat too. We don’t have all the same appetite and the same budget for this. We’ll ask 100€/person for these basics. The rest will be returned at the end of the trip. It’s only for the basics. After that, everybody compose his menu with the money he want to. I advice you to take already some food in your luggages when we leave Belgium. This system is the one that seems the more equitable to me. If you have a better idea, let me know, i’m open to all propositions. This budget doesn’t count the food for the Sziget! (The food in the festivals is expensive Some people may want to buy some food out of the festival and others may want to eat expensive and delicious food in the festival.)
-We absolutely need a good car assurance. I must confirm but after some researches, I found one that’s not too expensive. It would cost approximately 30€/person. I will confirm that soon.
-For the real campings and the hotels, nobody is obliged to follow us in the hotels if you think it’s out of your budget. There is always a solution: sleep in the car, find a place with nobody around and sleep in tent (or without any tent, like hobos) or ask to put your tent in the garden of local peoples. They could ask some money but really, it’s not much. Something like 5€ is already a lot. I’ll soon calculate where we take hotels and tell you the price of each place where we want to pay for a lodgment.
-For the national Parcs entries and the activities, you must count:
-14,50€ for Plitvice -13€ for Krka
-6,50€ for Paklenica
-Something like 50€/60€ for the scuba diving
-50€ for the canyoning
-50€ for the hydrospeed
We don’t know already the price of Top Hill.
In clear, for the fuel, the tolls, the basic food, the entries in the national Parcs, the scuba diving, the canyoning, the insurance and the Sziget, you must count something like 800€. Moreover, you must count you extra food, your meat, your food during the sziget, the hotels and the campings if you want and the entry of Top Hill.
Personally, I count 1000€-1100€ to be large in my budget and don’t worry about money during the holidays. I remind you that we give back the money of the fuel and the food if there is too much!
Enough speech about money, now the conditions to enjoy fully this trip! You must have a 5C (6A is better but 5C is OK) level of climbing. If you want to come train with us, let me know. You also need your own climbing equipment. And you must be OK with the camping, the lack of comfort, the cold showers, the absence of wifi, etc.
For the cars, mine is now full so we absolutely need other cars! If someone is interested and have a car, please, contact me!
That’s all, I think! If you have questions, suggestions, you can contact me on my Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/aline.marganne.7 Or by Email: Hokori@hotmail.be
